How long does a SharePoint intranet project take? +
A custom SharePoint intranet for a 200–500 person company typically takes 10 to 16 weeks: 2 weeks for information architecture, 6 to 10 weeks for development, 2 to 4 weeks for migration and go-live. Using intranet.ai as the base reduces this to 4 to 8 weeks for most organisations.
What is the difference between SharePoint Online and SharePoint Server (on-premise)? +
SharePoint Online is Microsoft's cloud version, included in Microsoft 365 subscriptions. Microsoft has effectively ended new feature development for SharePoint Server and is pushing all innovation into SharePoint Online. We strongly recommend migration to SharePoint Online for any company still running SharePoint Server 2013, 2016 or 2019.
How do you migrate content from our existing file server to SharePoint? +
We use Microsoft's SharePoint Migration Tool and third-party migration platforms (ShareGate) for structured migrations. The process includes: content inventory and cleanup, metadata mapping, permission migration, content migration in batches, validation and user training. A typical file server migration for 500GB of content takes 4 to 6 weeks including planning and testing.
Can SharePoint replace our current document management system? +
In many cases, yes. SharePoint Online with Purview provides document lifecycle, versioning, retention policies, sensitivity labels and granular permissions that satisfy the requirements of most Italian organisations. We have migrated clients from Documentum, OpenText, Laserfiche and custom document management systems to SharePoint Online.
